The international non-alcoholic beverage industry recognizes its responsibility to play a positive role in contributing to discussions about energy drinks.
Energy drinks (like other caffeine-containing foods and non-alcoholic beverages) have been safely consumed and enjoyed by consumers worldwide for decades. Despite the documented safety of energy drinks, ICBA recognizes that there are many complex health and nutrition-related issues impacting the global community, and it is critical that all stakeholders in society, including the non-alcoholic beverage industry, engage in cross-sector dialogue to develop holistic and sustainable solutions based on sound science. To that end, the global non-alcoholic beverage industry has been working with government, industry, the healthcare community, and consumers to be part of the solution. In 2013, for example, ICBA adopted voluntary “ Guidelines for the Composition, Labelling and Responsible Marketing of Energy Drinks,” which were subsequently updated on March 26, 2019.
